Fall-related injuries often result in hospitalization and even death. People who fall often have reduced mobility and less independence. Talk with your doctor or look for a community program to learn more about preventing falls.

Manage depression and unhealthy behaviors

Older adults may face issues like depression or abuse of alcohol, drugs or medications. The National Council on Aging encourages learning to manage depression and unhealthy behaviors. A doctor's care and support network  can help you lead a more rewarding life.

Healthy eating

Your calorie needs change as you age. Talk to your doctor about a healthy eating plan for you. Focus on nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Remember to balance the calories from what you eat and drink by exercising.
