What is distracted driving?

Anything that takes your attention away from driving can be a distraction. Sending a text message, talking on a cell phone, using a navigation system or eating are all common examples. Driving distracted can be dangerous for you and others.

Tips for avoiding distracted driving

Here are some helpful tips for keeping your eyes safely on the road:

  • Don’t use your cell phone
  • Preset your favorite radio stations or music ahead of time
  • Don’t eat or drink
  • Restrain your pet with a harness or safety belt
  • Know where you’re going and how to get there
  • Secure your cargo (e.g. groceries)
  • Make sure you’re comfortable before you take off
  • Don’t drive if you’re upset
