What is an Annual Wellness Visit?
Your first visit to your OptumCare® doctor after you join Medicare may be your “Welcome to Medicare” visit. During this Medicare Annual Wellness Visit, your doctor will review your medical history and discuss preventive services like annual screenings.
Your doctor will also:
- Do a blood screening.
- Review your medications.
- Perform other routine screenings.
We will remind you each year to schedule your Annual Wellness Visit. Together, you and your medical provider will create a plan to keep you healthy.
You qualify for an Annual Wellness Visit if:
- You’ve had Medicare Part B for more than 12 months.
- You have not had a “Welcome to Medicare” visit in the last 12 months.
How much will I pay for the Annual Wellness Visit?Text
Your Annual wellness visit is a once-a-year preventive exam. Medicare Part B covers the cost of this exam. If you’re in a Medicare Advantage Plan, check with your health plan to see if these benefits also apply to you.CLOSE
Does my Annual Wellness Visit replace my other visits to the doctor?Text
Wellness visits focus on preventive care. If you have other concerns you wish to discuss with your doctor, you may need to schedule a separate visit.
Similarly, you may want to schedule a separate visit to talk about any chronic medical problems you have. This includes diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma or other conditions. This will allow your doctor more time to address all of your concerns.CLOSE
What should I bring to my Annual Wellness Visit?Text
Bring the following items to your wellness visit:
- Your medical and immunization records. If you’re seeing a new doctor, get copies of these records from your former doctor.
- Your family health history.
Also bring a list of prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines that you currently take. Write down why you take them and how often.CLOSE
