Dear valued patient,
I hope this message finds you safe and well. My name is Amar Desai and I have the honor of leading the Optum California family of medical groups and physician networks. I am also a practicing physician — as well as a husband, a father, a brother, and a son. In each of my roles, it is profoundly clear that these extraordinary times will both challenge us and bring us together more than ever as we navigate this unexpected journey.
Our organization serves over 1.4 million patients across Southern California, many of whom consider our doctors and care teams a part of their family, and the feeling is assuredly mutual. As we face the current coronavirus crisis (COVID-19), our physicians, clinicians and support staff are here to guide you, and I am grateful for their steadfast commitment to caring for our patients and our community. Together, we recognize that this is a time of unprecedented need — one that calls upon us to be at our very best for you.
I want to assure you that during this crisis we are committed to providing you with the health care services you depend on. Equally, I am dedicated to keeping our staff safe so they can perform their critical roles to ensure your and your family’s optimal health. With these objectives in mind, we have quickly implemented telephone appointments for many of our primary care visits to limit any disruption of care for our patients. And, we will soon be introducing expanded TeleHealth services utilizing video technology — to further meet the changing needs of the communities we serve.
These are difficult times, but we will get through them together, as we in Southern California are known to do. I know I speak for every member of our medical staff when I say that we take the greatest pride in caring for your well-being. Please be assured that the commitment we have shown for decades is stronger than ever, and that you can continue to rely on us. We are here for you.
Yours in health,
Amar A. Desai, MD
